NFL: Worst Free-Agent Contracts of 2016
By John Laird
10. CB Coty Sensabaugh, Los Angeles Rams
The Rams decided to sign Coty Sensabaugh to a three-year $15 million dollar deal that could round out at around $20 million with incentives. I would have no problem for this contract for a corner, if that corner could you know, cover. I watched every Titans game last year and Sensabaugh gave up his share of deep passes.
If you watched that clip, you can tell the former Clemson Tiger has a hard time of making plays on the ball, and that’s when he is in position to make a play. Way too many times last year Sensabaugh was caught out of position. He has a really hard time of staying in the hip pocket of the receiver down the field and that could be a testament to his straight line speed.
Sensabaugh also helped make Brandon Weeden look like a starting caliber quarterback, that’s hard to do.
Even with the loss of Janoris Jenkins, that still doesn’t justify over paying a player like Sensabaugh. Paying around $5 million a year is what you want for a good slot corner. Key word there, good.
Coty Sensabaugh was only able to accumulate 2 interceptions over his four year career. A number you would like to see a lot higher then that for a player your paying that kind of money for. Jeff Fisher has a thing for former Titans, and moves like this one may make his first season in Los Angeles his last one.
