Are the Philadelphia Eagles Leaning Towards Making Carson Wentz Inactive in 2016?
By Dan Parzych
With training camp quickly approaching, it looks like Philadelphia Eagles head coach Doug Pederson is leaning towards having Carson Wentz inactive to start the season.
With Chip Kelly officially out of the picture, the Philadelphia Eagles made all sorts of moves during the 2016 season, but the biggest move came in the 2016 NFL Draft when they traded up to select quarterback Carson Wentz at No. 2.
Between the hefty two-year deal given to Sam Bradford in March and the signing of Chase Daniel, the move to select Wentz came as a bit of a surprise when considering all of the money that was already being spent on quarterbacks, but the team clearly sees something special in the former North Dakota State star.

In fact, it looks like that’s all Wentz may be for the team at the moment–a quarterback for the future who won’t be active during his rookie season.
According to Jimmy Kempski of Philly Voice, Doug Pederson appears to be leaning towards having Wentz inactive as a rookie–at least to start the season. Over the years, teams have been known to throw their high-draft pick rookie quarterbacks in the mix right away, but it appears Pederson is leaning towards having Wentz learn from the sidelines in his first season.
As crazy as this sounds–it kind of makes sense for the Eagles.

Philadelphia knows there’s just too much money invested in Bradford over the next two years to just have him sit on the bench and even having Daniel (three-year, $21 million contract) inactive wouldn’t make much sense either when considering the veteran experience he brings to the table.
There’s plenty of hype surrounding Wentz becoming the organization’s next big franchise quarterback, but it’s difficult not to support Pederson in this one if he ends up making the rookie inactive to start the season and take it from there.
