Aldon Smith Checks into Rehab Center

According to TMZ.com, Smith checked into a treatment center. According to ESPN’s Ed Werder, the NFL plans to investigate a video on Periscope, which doesn’t show the defensive lineman’s face. However, on an account he’s previously used, a voice says his name.

There’s no word on whether the Periscope video influenced Smith’s decision.

As previously mentioned, the Raiders’ front office already prepared themselves for a potential setback with the talented edge-rusher bringing a troubled past to the mix. General manager Reggie McKenzie added several pass-rushers, including rookie Shilique Calhoun to play a similar role to Smith.

Local reporters asked Del Rio and Mack about the issue, but both denied knowing extensively about the situation. The coaches aren’t allowed to have contact with the suspended player before reinstatement.

Del Rio wished Smith well but emphasized his focus on the players in front of him at practice. Smith can apply to lift the ban in November.
