The NFL Spin Zone ‘Countdown to Kickoff’ series continues with 38 days until kickoff, profiling Kansas City Chiefs defensive back No. 38, Ron Parker.

Today is August 1, 2016, which means there are exactly 38 days until the NFL season kicks off. That also means we are officially another month closer to the first NFL kickoff, which takes place on September 8, 2016.

In that first kickoff, it will be between the two teams that went to battle against one another in Super Bowl 50. The Denver Broncos walked away victorious in the game as their defense rallied together to shut down the Carolina Panthers 2015 NFL MVP and Offensive Player of the Year, Cam Newton.

In the game, Von Miller won Super Bowl MVP for his ability to disrupt the passing game, sacking Newton two and a half times and forcing a fumble that was recovered in the end zone for a touchdown. The two teams will kickoff the year to see if the defending champions are back for another run or if Newton and company has it all figured out this season.

As we wait for the two teams to kickoff the NFL season, the team at NFL Spin Zone has decided to profile a player whose number is associated with the amount of days until that first kickoff.

With that in mind, there are 38 days until football, so I will profile Kansas City Chiefs defensive back, No. 38 Ron Parker.

Football is the ultimate team sport. Players need to be willing to make sacrifices for their team in order to get to the next level. Look no further than Parker to see what I am saying, as he has made multiple sacrifices in order for his team to be successful.

In 2015, Parker played whatever position his team needed him to play. That doesn’t happen often, as players like to stay at their position they feel most comfortable with, mainly because they know they can earn the most money doing that.

Not Parker.

Parker started the year as a safety for the Chiefs, starting three games there. Then, an injury shook up the Chiefs defense, forcing someone to step up. That player was Parker, who made a position chance from his safety spot to the nickel corner spot that opened from injury.

Making the switch, there should be a learning curve, however Parker is no stranger to playing wherever his team needs him. In 2014, Parker started 15 games for the Chiefs, starting 11 games at safety and the other five at cornerback.

Parker’s ability to do whatever is necessary for his team to be successful is what you want to see, but what makes it even better is the fact that he has played exceptionally well wherever he has played.

Playing two positions, Parker was still able to compile 67 tackles, three interceptions and 12 pass deflections, which put him second on his team in all three categories. Parker was also able to sack the quarterback five times, putting him fourth on the team and showing his ability to do it all.

As we head into the 2016 NFL season, Parker heads into his sixth year in the league. Parker is always someone to keep an eye on because he may never be the best player in the NFL, however he cares more about his team than himself.

With 38 days until kickoff, No. 38 will once again look to do whatever he can to try and take his team to the Super Bowl.
