Brock Osweiler most likely wasn’t hoping that his first drive as the Houston Texans’ quarterback would end the way it did against the Chicago Bears

The Houston Texans paid an excess of money to bring in Brock Osweiler in free agency. Despite having fewer than 10 starts to his credit over his career, the Texans were confident that he’d be able to go out and lead the way for this talent-laden team. He finally got the chance to prove he’s worth his salt on Sunday in Week 1. As Houston welcomed the Chicago Bears to town on Sunday afternoon, all eyes were on Brock Osweiler.

Osweiler was put on display in front of the home fans right away. With the Texans getting the ball first, he looked to put together a quality opening drive for his first with the new team in the regular season. After driving down the field a bit, the former Denver Broncos slinger ran into a snag. Trying to find every Texans quarterback’s favorite target, DeAndre Hopkins, on the right side of the field, The Brock Lobster threw into tight coverage. As it tends to happen when you test competent NFL defensive backs like that, Osweiler was picked off. That’s not an ideal way to start your career with a new team.

Ostensibly, that wasn’t the worst throw we’ve ever seen in the NFL. However, it was a risky throw and sometimes this is how risks wind up in this league.

The real question now, though, will be how the big quarterback responds. If he lets a play like this shake him, that’s bad news for everyone. If he can come out and make amends by getting on the board, that’s promising for the Texans. We shall see which outcome ultimately plays out.
