Arizona Cardinals second-year running back David Johnson destroyed the Patriots defense by turning a loss into a huge gain on the ground

Whenever the Arizona Cardinals lost running back Chris Johnson due to injury last season, there were questions about whether or not it’d derail their season or not. As it turns out, all it truly did was allow them to find arguably their greatest weapon in David Johnson. Now entering his second season in the NFL, David Johnson is expected to be one of the best backs in the NFL. Against the New England Patriots in Week 1 on Sunday Night Football, he sure looked like it at times.

Even though the Pats were able to stifle Johnson largely in the first half, he kept coming right at them. As it tends to go with backs that keep coming, the Patriots eventually wore down. So when Johnson looked to be tackled on a run early in the fourth quarter, it was fool’s gold for New England.

Rather than going down for a loss, Johnson broke free with a couple of strong moves and then stiff-arms. He then turned on the jets down the sideline for a massive 45-yard gain. Not bad for a play that should have been stopped in the backfield.

There’s so much about David Johnson to love as an NFL player. The passion, force, speed, and everything else that he plays with are all endearing to any fan. It’s safe to say that the Cardinals found an absolute stud—and he’s just getting started.
