The Miami Dolphins and Seattle Seahawks played a sloppy, defensive struggle, with the Seahawks ultimately coming out on top to kick off the 2016 NFL season.

10. 59. 12. 36. Final

Neither the Miami Dolphins nor the Seattle Seahawks got the 2016 NFL season off to a strong start. Both teams played a sloppy game and had a tough time moving the ball down the field. Until the last few minutes of the fourth quarter, neither team could muster more than a field goal.

The story of this game was defense, defense, defense. The much-feared Seattle Seahawks defense again showed the league exactly what they are made of, holding the Dolphins offense to modest yards both on the ground and through the air.

Miami’s defense would not be outdone, however. They held their own against Russell Wilson and the Seahawks offense until the end of the game. Isa Abdul-Quddus came away with a key interception early in the game, and the front four put pressure on Wilson the entire game.

Ultimately, though, the Seahawks prevailed and start their season off on the right foot with the victory.

Three Stars

Russell Wilson, Seattle – Wilson didn’t have a very Russell Wilson-like performance in the season opener. He struggled throughout the game, particularly in the second half. Wilson was hampered by a hurt ankle, but came through when the team needed him most. He looked like the Russell Wilson we’re used to on the final drive, leading his team down the field for the go-ahead score.

Doug Baldwin, Seattle – Doug Baldwin was one of the few bright spots for either team offensively. In an ugly, defensive struggle, Baldwin managed to haul in a game-high 9 receptions for 92 yards. Russell Wilson’s favorite target also hauled in the game-winning touchdown with less than a minute left.

Seattle Seahawks Defense – The vaunted Seattle Seahawks defense proved they’re still one of the best squads in the NFL, turning in a dominant performance in the opener. The Seahawks held Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill under 200 yards passing, putting a ton of pressure on him in the process. They also held Miami under 100 yards on the ground, and only gave up one late touchdown.
