Blair Walsh wanted to give Tennessee the game, but the Minnesota Vikings defense capitalized on Titans mistakes to seal the win on the road.

25. 60. Final. 16. 35

The Minnesota Vikings didn’t need Teddy Bridgewater, production from Adrian Peterson, nor much production from the offense today; the Tennessee Titans were more than willing to give the Vikings everything they needed to come out victorious.

Second year players, Eric Kendricks and Danielle Hunter, snatched an interception and fumble respectively and returned both for touchdowns. Both of those touchdowns were the firsts of their careers, and were the only touchdowns scored by the Vikings today.

Marcus Mariota and the Titans controlled the tempo in the first half, with Murray and Derrick Henry providing that one-two punch successfully. In the second half it seemed as if the Titans became complacent, becoming a victim of their early success.

Mariota was baited into a bad interception when pressured by Everson Griffen, Kendricks stepped in front of the pass and took it to the house. In the fourth quarter Mariota and Murray botched an option hand-off, resulting in Danielle Hunter picking it up and racing it to pay dirt.

The Titans just simply need to clean up mistakes and not turnover the ball, they had the Vikings reeling before letting them back into the game. On the other sideline, the Vikings must find resolve on offense, especially in the red zone. Also, one must wonder what exactly Minnesota will do with the Blair Walsh project. Walsh was a meager 3 of 5 on field goals, while missing on an extra point as well. That’s seven full points left on the field from one position, inconsistency remains a huge issue for Walsh.

Three Stars

Eric Kendricks, Vikings – For someone who didn’t play all preseason, Eric Kendricks didn’t skip a beat. The middle linebacker notched six tackles on the game; and recorded his first interception, and defensive touchdown, of his career on the same play in the third quarter.

Stefon Diggs, Vikings – Even though the offense couldn’t find much success in the red zone, Stefon Diggs was a key component on getting them in position to at least attempt to score. Seven catches on the day for 103 yards, Diggs may very well be best emerging play maker on this offense.

Demarco Murray, Titans – Despite a fumble and a miscommunication on a hand-off, Murray was still able to find the end zone twice for the Titans. Demarco had 13 carries for 42 yards, with five catches for 35 yards and two touchdowns; a solid stat-line for this new addition.
