Steelers at Redskins Recap, Highlights, Final Score, More
By Hunter Noll
The Pittsburgh Steelers dominated the Washington Redskins for most of the contest on Monday night.
For the first few minutes of the game, the Redskins were in control. The defense was looking good. With the Redskins up 3-0, Bashaud Breeland picked off a pass, putting Washington in scoring position immediately.

The Redskins capitalized (kind of) and got three more points on the board. Sadly for the Redskins, that was one of the last highlights of the day for them. The following Steelers drive saw Ryan Kerrigan strip-sack Ben Roethlisberger, but the Steelers recovered the ball. Pittsburgh went on to score a touchdown on that drive, and took all the momentum from there.
The Steelers would score the next 21 as well, and by the end of the third it was 24-9, Pittsburgh with the advantage.
Now, before the game, I said that the Redskins needed to contain Antonio Brown. This is no hot take, the Steelers were down a few weapons and Brown is the best receiver in football. Roethlisberger went his way a lot, and Brown feasted. The Pro-Bowler had eight receptions for 126 yards and two touchdowns.
It wasn’t just Brown however, as DeAngelo Williams proved he still had a lot left in the tank. The Redskins defense looked to improve it’s work against the run in 2016, but got off to a miserable start. Williams picked up 143 yards and two touchdowns on 26 carries, while picking up another 28 yards on six receptions.
Roethisberger gets the MVP however, as he completed 27-of-37 passes for 300 yards and three touchdowns. He refused to go down in the backfield, and kept plenty of plays alive. The 34-year-old also had some incredible plays, including this one to Sammie Coates.
Despite a miserable snap, Roethlisberger picked it up and basically blindly threw the ball to Coates. That wasn’t the only time Roethlisberger made something happen when nothing was there.
One the Redskins side, Kirk Cousins threw a touchdown pass in every game last season, but couldn’t manage one on Monday. He also threw two interceptions, and his “prove-it” season is off to a miserable start.
The running game looked mediocre, but playing from behind most of the day, they didn’t get many opportunities (12 carries).

The Steelers proved that they can manage without some of their weapons. As long as they have Roethlisberger and Brown, they’ll be just fine.
The Redskins proved that they’ve got a long way to go on the defensive end. If that run defense can’t improve, it’s going to be an extremely long season.
