The 2011 sixth round pick out of Virginia Tech, Tyrod Taylor, started his first season in 2015. He started 14 games, throwing for 3,035 yard and 20 touchdowns. He also ran for 568 yards and four touchdowns, highlighting his dual-threat abilities.

His solid season earned him a new six-year contract extension worth $92 million this offseason. Many expect big things from Taylor in 2016, however he did not deliver in Week 1.

Taking on the Baltimore Ravens, Taylor only threw for 111 yards. That put him dead last for passing yards throughout Week 1. You would think that Taylor would’ve ran for a bunch of yards, since he only threw fore the 111 on 22 attempts, but he didn’t. Taylor only carried the ball five times for 11 yards, with one run going for six yards.

It was definitely not the day Taylor was looking for, especially after signing the contract extension that he did. The Ravens defense got after him on Sunday, sacking him twice and having constant pressure, but that is no excuse to play that poorly.

The biggest problem for Taylor is that his extension is essentially a one-year deal with a team option after that. So, in easier terms, if he stinks all season he won’t be back in 2017. Nor will he see all that big money that was thrown around if he played well.
