Here in Week 2, Matthew Stafford has an easier task on hand against the Tennessee Titans, and Detroit is currently up to a 9-3 lead. Now, getting a win over Tennessee is easier for the Lions, but throwing the football against the Titans defense isn’t as easy, simply because they are actually fielding a healthy secondary.
Stafford has been pretty good today, completing 9 of 15 passes for 112 yards, one touchdown, no interceptions, and 7.5 yards per attempt. He and Anquan Boldin have shown a good rapport out there, and big-money free agent signing Marvin Jones has shined with four passes on five targets for 52 yards.
Even though Stafford’s arm provided us with a noteworthy play on his TD toss to Boldin, we’re more likely to remember this play that he made with his feet.
On 3rd and 8, Stafford decided to take matters into his own hands by tucking the ball and running it straight at the heart of the Titans defense. Titans cornerback Perish Cox quickly met him face-to-face, and Stafford decided to send him the pain, trucking him to the ground.
After that truck, it seemed like destiny for Stafford to pick up a gutsy first down, but, unfortunately, it wasn’t meant to be. Stafford got tattooed by safeties Da’Norris Searcy and Daimion Stafford, falling short of a first down marker.
