New England Patriots rookie quarterback Jacoby Brissett notched a 27-yard rushing score against the Houston Texans for the first touchdown of his career

When rookie Jacoby Brissett came in to relieve the injured Jimmy Garoppolo in Week 2 for the New England Patriots, his job was essentially holding on to their lead. However, he was tasked with much more on Thursday Night Football. Going up against the Houston Texans, he would be given the reins as the starter for the Pats. Subsequently, he’d be asked to lead his offense to victory against a quality defense.

Throughout his first couple of drives, Brissett ran a basic offense. He threw short passes and used his legs a bit. Near the end of the first quarter, though, the rookie started looking like he was settling in. That was never more the case then when he and the Patriots started knocking on the door of the red zone.

As the Texans consistently kept sending blitzes at the rookie, Brissett got loose on the outside with a ton of room to work. He then put some moves on and then showed a bit of power as well to muscle his way into the end zone after a 27-yard run for his first touchdown of his career.

Say what you will about his passing, but there’s no doubt that Brissett has serious wheels under center.

In fairness, the Texans’ gameplan against the rookie has been a bit baffling. But hats off to Jacoby Brissett for noticing that and taking advantage of it. Now the question will be if he can maintain that for 60 minutes or if he’ll falter and let the Texans climb back in.
