Trae Waynes came up with a huge pick to stop a deep throw from Cam Newton in Week 3

Last week in the Minnesota Vikings win over the Green Bay Packers, Trae Waynes sealed the game by intercepting Aaron Rodgers. In Week 3, he claimed Cam Newton as his latest victim.

There are many opinions out there about how effective of a cornerback Minnesota Vikings second-year pro Waynes is. However, there’s no doubting the fact that Waynes has been coming up big for Mike Zimmer’s team, as he added another big-time interception by picking off Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton this week.

Newton and the Panthers found themselves up 10-8, but the Vikings made sure that the game is a slugfest. Whenever Carolina tried to get a big play going, Minnesota shut it down, Or, as Waynes did here, they picked it off.

We’ve seen the Newton-to-Ted Ginn Jr. connection work so many times, but this big pass was not to be.

Newton received a gratuitous amount of time from the Vikings pass rush, and yet he could not take advantage. This interception is partially the result of Waynes’s excellent ball skills, but Newton deserves some of the blame for underthrowing this pass or even for not pulling the trigger sooner. A foot race between Ginn Jr. and Waynes is one that Ginn Jr. will always win.

Sam Bradford has been having a difficult time throwing the ball against Carolina, and Stefon Diggs and Kyle Rudolph continue to be the only pass-catching options that show up. The Vikings running game has been more effective lately thanks to Jerick McKinnon, who is averaging 5.9 yards per carry, but they still have just eight points on the board.
