Marvin Jones did his best to try and make a game of it in Week 3 with his Detroit Lions getting smacked by the Green Bay Packers

The Detroit Lions found themselves up against a newly energized Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers on Sunday in Week 3. They found themselves down 31-3 in the first half and not having much success to speak of when it comes to their offense. However, Marvin Jones did his best to keep Detroit at least hopeful.

With time winding down in the first half, Jones absolutely torched a depleted Packers secondary for a 73-yard touchdown:

Josh Hawkins vs Marvin Jones is a mismatch, and Jones just shoves the Packers cornerback to the ground after making the one-on-one catch. I have no clue how he stayed in bounds, but once Jones’s balance held up, the rest was easy. He scampered away, leaving a trail of dust behind him for Hawkins and Dom Capers to eat.

Jones has only been targeted three times today, but his two receptions have gone for 111 yards. With Ameer Abdullah out, there’s no doubt that Jones is the Lions best playmaker. Stafford needs to feed him if the Lions are to win this game. And if the Packers don’t want to blow the lead, maybe they should do a better job of defending Jones, who has been one of the best playmaking receivers in the league so far. After all, he had over 100 yards last week.

That said, the Packers have been dominant today and Aaron Rodgers is sitting pretty with four touchdown passes at the half, averaging 9.7 yards per attempt. Like Jones, Jordy Nelson is up over 100 yards of receiving. Nelson also caught a TD pass before the half on a one-on-one back-shoulder fade in the end zone.
