Colts Fake Onside Kick Twice for Absolutely No Reason (Video)
The Indianapolis Colts faked an onside kick twice only to kick it deep, continuing their history of pointless special teams trickery
NFL fans won’t soon forget the Indianapolis Colts and Chuck Pagano making one of the worst special teams of all time last season. They lined up on fourth down with everyone except for the snapper and a wide receiver under the pseudo center out wide. Literally it was just two guys standing alone. And for whatever reason, they snapped the ball and were eaten alive as quickly as you’d expect.
On Sunday in Week 5, the Colts may have come close to matching that type of special teams buffoonery.
To start their game against the Chicago Bears in Indianapolis, Pat McAfee and the kickoff team lined up like they were going to try an onside kick. However, he stopped short and went to the other side of the ball. He then ran up like he was going to onside kick it to the other side of the field, but pulled back again. McAfee then kicked it long where the ball was returned out to about the 30-yard line by the Bears:
I can’t overstate how pointless everything that they did on that play was. Not only did Indy fake an onside kick twice and then not actually onside kick it, but they didn’t even catch the return team off-guard. They got a solid return on the play. Literally they just put McAfee in danger of turning an ankle with those fakes and not much else.
Ban the Colts from special teams. Start the movement.
