Pittsburgh Steelers running back DeAngelo Williams took time in pre-game to personally greet, hug breast cancer survivors in attendance

Pittsburgh Steelers running back DeAngelo Williams might be the best backup in the league, playing behind Le’Veon Bell. In Bell’s three-game absence to start the season, Williams filled in wonderfully and productively. Now back doing relief duty, Williams can still bust open a big one at any time. However, perhaps his greatest attribute is his advocacy for breast cancer awareness.

As Breast Cancer Awareness month is underway in October for the NFL, Williams has long been one of the most outspoken players about the disease. His mother was afflicted with the disease and battled it for 10 years before passing away in 2014. Even after the loss of his mother, though, DeAngelo Williams has remained vocal as an advocate. Moreover, he’s always let his actions speak louder than words.

With the Steelers wearing shirts reading “Pittsburgh is Stronger than Cancer” ahead of their Week 5 game (shirts Williams made for the team), the running back again let his actions speak. The veteran took time out of his pre-game routine to greet and hug breast cancer survivors and fans in attendance for the game in Pittsburgh:

That’s truly a touching scene. You can tell simply by his demeanor that he’s genuine in wanting to meet these women. And obviously they are thrilled to be able to meet and hug the Steelers running back.

We often see a lot of pink in the NFL this time of year, but no one has the actions to back up that support quite like DeAngelo Williams. This is just another example.
