Eagles at Lions Recap, Highlights, Final Score, More

The Detroit Lions surprised their home crowd with an upset victory over the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 5.

After coming into the game undefeated, many had the Philadelphia Eagles winning their Week 5 matchup with the Detroit Lions handedly. The Lions only had one win on the season, but they came out of the gates like they were the undefeated team.

On their first two drives they scored touchdowns and it looked like the Eagles defense had no answer. Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford was dealing early and found his running back Theo Riddick for those first two scores.

Detroit led 14-0 after the first quarter, but Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz started to find his groove in the second quarter. He found his running back Ryan Mathews for a one-yard touchdown, getting the game to 14-7. However Stafford answered with his third touchdown of the first half when he found Marvin Jones for a touchdown (21-7).

After kicking a field goal to end the first half (21-10), the Eagles came to play in the third quarter. They started the quarter with a nice touchdown drive (21-17), which was highlighted by a great catch from Nelson Agholor. The defense then forced a fumble and it led to an Eagles field goal (21-20).

The Eagles then kicked a field goal in the fourth quarter, putting them on top 23-21. As the Eagles went to put the game on ice, Mathews had an inexcusable fumble with 2:39 left in the game. The Lions recovered, drove down the field, and kicked a field goal to take the lead.

Wentz had 1:28 to lead his team down the field, but he used only 11 seconds before he threw an interception on the first play to Darius Slay. It was his first interception of his career and the Eagles lost their first game of the season, though he did play a solid game in his first career loss.

Three Stars

Darius Slay, Detroit Lions — Slay balled out when the Lions needed him most: the fourth quarter. He forced the Mathews fumble and then sealed the game with the interception.

Matthew Stafford, Detroit Lions — Stafford was efficient, completing 19-of-25 passes for 180 yards and three touchdowns.

Theo Riddick, Detroit Lions — Riddick had 82 total yards and two touchdowns. He crushed the Eagles defense early in the game and played a huge role in the win.

Next Game

The Lions will try to keep their two-game winning streak alive in Week 6 against the Los Angeles Rams while the Eagles will look to get back on track against the Washington Redskins.
