Steve Smith Injury Update: Ravens Receiver Out for Game
Baltimore Ravens receiver Steve Smith Sr. suffered an ankle injury in Week 5 early on and has been ruled out for the rest of the game.
There are a lot of people in the NFL you should never bet against, most prominently a certain quarterback on the New England Patriots. However, Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Steve Smith Sr. is near the top of the list as well.
Smith had a somewhat slow start to the season, but a huge stiff-arm touchdown against the Oakland Raiders in Week 4 proclaimed that the former Utah standout still has it. In that narrow loss, Smith led the way with 111 receiving yards, and he looked like a man on the mission.
In Week 5 against the Redskins, Smith looked on track to carve the defense up as a possession man, catching all three of his targets for 29 yards. Unfortunately, Smith was forced out of the game with an ankle injury in the first quarter and the Ravens have only scored three points in the first half ater that.
Worse yet, the Ravens have announced that Smith will not be able to return to today’s game due to this ankle injury.
Smith means a lot to this offense, because he is by far their most talented player and best playmaker on that side of the ball. Mike Wallace has been a bright spot and Breshad Perriman is not short on ability, but nobody can match Smith’s savvy or production. Heck, I wouldn’t be shocked if he’s still more explosive than those two, but that might be a stretch.

An absolute treat to watch, we can only hope that Smith will be able to play in Week 6 against the New York Giants.
