It was more of the same on Monday night in the desert for the New York Jets as they fell to the Arizona Cardinals.

3. 30. Final. 28. 32

It was more of the same for the Jets this week as they could not get any kind of spark on offense. It finally became the breaking point in the fourth quarter as Geno Smith came in to replace Ryan Fitzpatrick, but it didn’t matter. The score of this one could have been 52-3 the way New York played. It was all Arizona and then some in this one.

The tone was set early in this one when on the second drive of the game, David Johnson broke off a 58-yard touchdown run. It marked the longest of his young career and it gave Arizona a lead it would never relinquish.

New York simply couldn’t get anything going on offense. Early on, they had punted on seven out of their first eight drives. The most active player early in the game was Lac Edwards, the punter. They got nothing going on the ground. Matt Forte ran the ball nine times for just 19 yards. The Jets became unbalanced, and the game got out of hand. The offense does not even resemble the group that played in 2015.

Arizona dominated the game on all sides of the ball. Granted, they didn’t push the football down the field as much as I expected in the preview. But Carson Palmer had an accurate night, going 23-34 through the air for 213 yards and one touchdown. David Johnson was fantastic, running the ball for over five yards per carry. The offensive line was solid, not allowing Palmer to be sacked once. The Jets’ “vaunted” defensive front didn’t lay a glove on him.

Penalties marred this one, and marred it badly. The Jets were penalized ten times for 83 yards, and the Cardinals were penalized nine times for 64 yards. The calls against New York killed more than one drive, and several were pre-snap. The discipline was troubling, and that is on the coaching.

It was a bad night for New York as they fell to 1-5, and Arizona is getting a head of steam as they ran their record back to .500 at 3-3.

Three Stars

David Johnson, Cardinals — Johnson continues to show why he is one of the best young backs in the NFL. He finished the night with 22 rushes for 111 yards and three touchdowns on the ground, adding three receptions for 27 yards through the air.

Tyrann Mathieu, Cardinals — The “Honey Badger” was back strong, posting six tackles and the interception of Geno Smith late in the game.

Sheldon Richardson, Jets — He may be playing all over the field at different positions, but Richardson had a solid night, posting seven tackles to lead his defense.
