Ravens at Jets: Preview, Predictions, and More
Baltimore Ravens vs New York Jets
The New York Jets return to MetLife Stadium reeling with a 1-5 record. After an embarrassing loss to the Arizona Cardinals on Monday Night Football, they made a change at quarterback, naming Geno Smith the starter this week. Ryan Fitzpatrick will be the number two as New York welcomes the Baltimore Ravens to town.

The Ravens enter this one with problems of their own, riding a three-game losing streak. The latest loss came at the hands of the New York Giants last week by the score of 27-23. A late touchdown to Odell Beckham Jr. did them in. They do remain in the AFC North race, just one game behind the Pittsburgh Steelers, and very much in need of a win over New York.
Here’s a look at the keys to victory for this matchup.
Keys To Victory
The Jets must get something going on offense. It sounds simple, but sometimes it is. They are ranked 26th in the league in total offense, 21st in passing, and 21st in rushing. A group that set franchise records has been dismal. Geno Smith brings with him a different skill-set from Ryan Fitzpatrick, and he is going to have to get this offense sparked.
On defense, New York must get after Joe Flacco. They have not been able to generate a pass rush since week one against the Bengals and quarterbacks are picking them apart. Three of the six quarterbacks they’ve faced have eclipsed the 300-yard mark. They are getting too much time.
The Ravens must exploit New York’s secondary. To date, they have not been able to stop a nose bleed, to be quite honest. The real surprise on Monday night was that Carson Palmer did not complete a pass of over 20 yards against the Jets. Why not? They haven’t been able to stop it. Get the ball down the field early and often.
Confusing coverages on defense will also be key for Baltimore. Geno Smith has a real tendency to stare down his receivers. With all due respect, it shouldn’t take much to force him into errors.

Prediction
I do believe that New York will play better at home. Chan Gailey will be able to devise a game plan that will hide many of Smith’s faults. They will get him moving around in the pocket a bit, potentially use some “pistol” formations, and use his athleticism. Ultimately, Geno will make a mistake late that will do the Jets in, and send their season further down the bowl.
