Running Back: Spencer Ware (vs. New Orleans Saints)

Every team in the NFL strives for consistency. That’s meant to be in a positive way. But get a load of the New Orleans Saints defense. This unit is giving continuity a bad name.

In both 2014 and 2015, Sean Payton’s team finished next-to-last in the league in yards per game allowed. Two years ago, this group was also a dismal 29th vs. the run and 25th against the pass. Last season, the Saints were 31st across the board and for good measure also allowed an NFL-record 45 touchdown passes.

And yes, only the Oakland Raiders have allowed more total yards and passing yards per game than Payton’s squad. And despite offseason additions such as linebacker James Laurinaitis and defensive tackle Nick Fairley, New Orleans is a disappointing 26th in the league in rushing defense.

Which is why Kansas City Chiefs running back Spencer Ware is a must-play at Arrowhead Stadium this afternoon. He leads the teams with 415 rushing yards on just 78 carries (5.3 average) and has scored twice on the ground. Add in another 231 yards on 13 catches and Ware’s 646 yards from scrimmage ranked sixth in the league entering Week 7.

Andy Reid’s offense should have quite the showing against the Saints. And Ware figures to put up big numbers, especially with Jamaal Charles listed as questionable for this tilt.
