No, he hasn’t replaced Calvin Johnson, but the Detroit Lions couldn’t have asked for more from Marvin Jones so far this season.

Golden Tate surprised us all by having a much bigger game than Marvin Jones in Week 6, but Jones remains the Detroit Lions best player on offense. With 18.2 yards per reception, Jones has been one of the NFL’s best playmakers, and his importance to the Lions offense cannot be understated. Whenever Matthew Stafford needs a big play, Jones is the one to make it happen.

Need some more proof after Jones merely had two receptions for ten yards last week? Look no further than this 52-yard reception.

That’s an incredible catch from Jones, who beat Josh Norman all ends up. This is not an easy task, especially with the way Norman has played this year. Norman showed a lot of heart to try and break that play up, but Jones did well to make the play and hold on. Sadly, Norman suffered an injury on the play, so we can only hope he’s okay.

Jones had just one reception for nine yards before making that play, so Tate’s 79 yards actually lead the team.

The Lions are up 10-3 on the Washington Redskins late in the third quarter, but it hasn’t been a convincing display. Detroit’s touchdown came from Zach Zenner, who has been given three more carries than veteran Justin Forsett.

Jones was the favorite target of Stafford on Sunday, returning to the norm. When you see catches like this, it’s not hard to imagine why that’s the case.
