Bryce Petty’s First Touchdown Comes On Wild Hook and Ladder (Video)
New York Jets quarterback Bryce Petty got his first touchdown of his career with a wild trick play that somehow worked against the Los Angeles Rams.
Bryce Petty was the name on the tongue of every New York Jets fan the past week. The fans were calling for head coach Todd Bowles to start the second-year quarterback over Ryan Fitzpatrick. However, Bowles’ hand was seemingly forced in Week 10 against the Los Angeles Rams as Fitzpatrick was still hurt and unable to go. He was active, but the Baylor product in Petty got the start for Gang Green.

Considering his severe lack of experience, there weren’t exactly high expectations for Petty. However, fans just wanted to see if the kid could show them anything—to see if he had any kind of promise for development. What they probably weren’t expecting was Bryce Petty to be pulling out trick plays in the first half of his first start.
After having driven into the red zone, Bowles and Petty worked up a bit of trickery to anoint the Rams with. The second-year signal-caller took the snap and threw a quick screen to Brandon Marshall out on the left side. As he did this, though, speedy running back Bilal Powell was sweeping out that way. Upon catching the pigskin, Marshall then flipped it to Powell who took the edge and had an open path to the end zone on a beautiful hook and ladder:
Trick play or not, that was absolutely perfectly executed from (P-P-P-Petty) Petty and the Jets. And hey, how many other quarterbacks can say their first career touchdown pass came off of a hook and ladder? My guess would be that you can count them on one hand.
