Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo officially conceded the starting job to rookie sensation Dak Prescott, and Ezekiel Elliott is among those tweeting out his respect for the franchise icon.

Tony Romo has been through so many highs and lows with the Dallas Cowboys organization. Throughout it all, though, he has been a class act. Not only is Romo responsible for some of the greatest comeback victories and statistical seasons in Cowboys history, but he’s also warmed our hearts with his leadership.

Today, Romo made a statement at a press conference, conceding the starting job to Dak Prescott. Romo is now healthy enough to play after breaking a bone in his back before the start of the season. But with the way Prescott has played to this point, he knows the starting job is no longer his. By making it official, Romo is allowing everyone to move forward without any shadow of doubt in the locker room.

It’s a big step, and the biggest current star on the Cowboys roster knows it.

Elliott is an MVP candidate coming off of a marquee, three-touchdown performance in a 35-30 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers. He’s been a huge reason for the Cowboys league-best 8-1 record—and he and Prescott seem like best buds.

The former Ohio State star also knows the significance of what Romo did today and he’s completely right. You can’t keep a real one down. And Romo, as he showed today, is as real as it gets.

Now that Romo has conceded the Cowboys starting job (most likely for good), his future remains cloudy. With all that he’s given in his career and all the hits he’s taken, retirement could be a logical step for Romo after 2016. However, he still has plenty of great quarterbacking left in him. I’m sure he would be a top quarterback for several interested teams around the league.
