Jay Cutler Threads Needle to Zach Miller for Bears Touchdown (Video)
The much-maligned Jay Cutler made an absolutely perfect throw to thread the needle to Zach Miller for a Chicago Bears touchdown.
In a given week during a Chicago Bears game, you can never pinpoint which Jay Cutler is on the field. There is the one version of the quarterback with all of the talent in the world that can light any defense up. However, the other version is the listless and abysmal leader that prefers turning the ball over to scoring. Early in Week 11 against the New York Giants, it looked like the former version came to MetLife Stadium
Cutler led the Bears down the field with complete command of the offense. Despite the improved New York defense, Chicago’s offense was rolling. When they got down in the red zone, though, the quarterback then proved that the good version was in town in East Rutherford.
With tight end Zach Miller rolling out and up down the right sideline to the end zone, Jay Cutler uncorked a rocket down the sidelines. There was coverage around where Miller’s route was headed. But Cutler put the throw in the only place the ball could’ve been without getting picked. His ever-reliable tight end hauled it in for the score to give the Bears the 6-0 lead:
Because the Bears can’t have nice things, they of course missed the extra point.

Throws like this one, though, are why Cutler is so infinitely frustrating. He has the arm strength and physical tools to be a great quarterback. It’s all about his mentality. And sure, there’s a bit of outcome bias because this could’ve been picked off. However, he put the ball right on the money and Chicago scored as a result.
