Darrelle Revis was reportedly attacked by five people in Pittsburgh, leaving the New York Jets cornerback injured.

The New York jets have a massive decision to make this offseason regarding one of their veterans. Despite having plenty of miles on the tires, they made the decision to bring back cornerback Darrelle Revis two seasons ago prior to the start of the 2015 campaign. After a horrid showing in 2016, though, the Jets have to be looking at the offseason with serious considerations of cutting the veteran corner.

However, Revis has much more serious matters—it seems—to deal with before he talks about his contract status with the Jets.

According to a report from CBS Pittsburgh, the Jets cornerback was visiting Pittsburgh, where he attended college, this past weekend. While there, Revis became involved in some type of altercation where he was assaulted and attacked by five men. Reports on Thursday indicate that the cornerback then went and sought medical treatment as he “feared for his safety” following the altercation on the south side of Pittsburgh.

Details around the situation are certain scarce at this point in time. All that’s known is that there was an incident, that Darrelle Revis was involved, that he was assaulted by five men, and that he went to a medical facility to receive treatment. Any information regarding arrests, Revis’ injury status, or anything else is not yet available at this time.

With that said, this is certainly an interesting situation now for Revis and the Jets. While everyone hopes that he’s able to recover from any injuries sustained, this certainly complicates matters when it comes to his contract status and his possible release.

We will continue to update this story as more details become available.

Update No. 1

TMZ Sports is reporting that Revis and “his group” are under investigation by Pittsburgh police regarding the incident. Citing a report from WTAE in Pittsburgh, Revis’ group were the “aggressors” in the altercation and the group of five that allegedly assaulted Revis also had members that suffered “serious injuries.”

Again, stay tuned as more details emerge.

Update No. 2

WTAE in Pittsburgh has provided a timeline of the events according to sources close to the situation. Reportedly, it all started when Revis was approached by two people who asked if he was the Jets corner. That duo then started following him and trying to film him on a phone. That led to a shoving match in which Revis took the phone and threw it into the street before someone in Revis’ group threw a punch, though no one is sure who punched. One of the men who was punched suffered broken bones around his eye and both men were taken to the hospital.

It’s important to note here the sources for these reports. WTAE is citing “sources” while Revis’ lawyer provided the information about being assaulted by five men. We shall see if the truth lies on either side or somewhere in the middle.

Update No. 3

The Pittsburgh Police have released a statement regarding Revis and, per Albert Breer, charges are pending and they are quite serious, including “terroristic threats” and “conspiracy and aggravated assault.”
