Cleveland Browns: 2017 NFL Draft Projected Targets
By Peter Smith
Cornerbacks
Marshon Lattimore, Ohio State
Age: Unavailable
Height: 6-0
Weight: 193 lbs
40 Yard Dash: 4.36s
Broad Jump: 11′
Vertical: 38.5″
3-Cone: DNP
Shuttle: DNP
Bench: DNP
Production: 30 solo tackles (6.1 percent), 4 interceptions (19.1 percent), 9 pass deflections (18 percent)
Notes: Lattimore is not only the type of athlete NFL teams want at corner, but he’s extremely productive and has shown he can play in a number of different coverages and techniques effectively. The issue teams need to solve Lattimore is how they can combat recurring issues with his hamstrings.
Adoree’ Jackson, USC
Age: 21 (Born Sept. 18, 1995)
Height: 5-10
Weight: 200 lbs
40 Yard Dash: 4.42s
Broad Jump: 10’2″
Vertical: 36″
3-Cone: 6.49s
Shuttle: DNP
Bench: DNP
Production: 46 solo tackles (8.7 percent), 5 interceptions (35.7 percent), 11 pass deflections (18.3 percent)
Notes: Jackson is also one of the most dangerous punt returners coming out of college. The past two seasons, Jackson returned 44 punts at an average of 12.8 yards and four touchdowns.
Gareon Conley, Ohio State
Age: Unavailable
Height: 6-0.25
Weight: 195 lbs
40 Yard Dash: 4.44s
Broad Jump: 10’9″
Vertical: 37″
3-Cone: 6.68s
Shuttle: 4.18s
Bench: 11 reps
Production: 21 solo tackles (4.3 percent), 4 interceptions (19.1 percent), 8 pass deflections (16 percent)
Notes: Conley has never missed a game for the Buckeyes, contributing to their National Championship season and starting the past two years. The only thing that his profile is missing is a higher solo tackle market share and might be viewed as a “safer” choice than teammate Marshon Lattimore because he’s been so reliable.
Fabian Moreau, UCLA
Age: 23 (Born April 9, 1994)
Height: 5-11.875
Weight: 206 lbs
40 Yard Dash: 4.35s
Broad Jump: 11’4″
Vertical: 38″
3-Cone: 6.94s
Shuttle: 4.12s
Bench: DNP (Injured)
Production: 24 solo tackles (4 percent), 2 interceptions (13.3 percent), 9 pass deflections (14.7 percent)
Notes: Suffered a torn pec at Pro Day and had surgery at the end of March with a 4-6 month recovery timetable.
Shaquill Griffin, Central Florida
Age: Unavailable
Height: 5-11.75
Weight: 194 lbs
40 Yard Dash: 4.38s
Broad Jump: 11′
Vertical: 38.5″
3-Cone: 6.87s
Shuttle: 4.14s
Bench: 17 reps
Production: 54 solo tackles (10.2 percent), 4 interceptions (26.6 percent), 7 pass deflections (10.1 percent)
Notes: Griffin has prototypical size, athleticism and production. He’s also raw and has a lot of technical work to clean up inefficiencies in his game that could be targeted in the NFL.
Kevin King, Washington
Age: Unavailable
Height: 6-3.25
Weight: 200 lbs
40 Yard Dash: 4.43s
Broad Jump: DNP
Vertical: 39.5″
3-Cone: 6.56s
Shuttle: 3.89s
Bench: 11 reps
Production: 26 solo tackles (4.5 percent), 2 interceptions (10.5 percent), 13 pass deflections (30.9 percent)
Notes: King has one of the most incredible athletic profiles in the entire draft class. His tape is a roller coaster ride and he’s not a good tackler, so as attractive as he is, it’s not a given what teams actually do with him.
Jalen Myrick, Minnesota
Age: 22 (Born Feb. 27, 1995)
Height: 5-9.625
Weight: 200 lbs
40 Yard Dash: 4.28s
Broad Jump: 10’4″
Vertical: 37.5″
3-Cone: 7.06s
Shuttle: 4.22s
Bench: 13 reps
Production: 29 solo tackles (5.2 percent), 1 interception (11.1 percent), 11 pass deflections (23.4 percent)
Notes: Myrick has a low solo tackle market share and part of the problem is he tends to go for big hits. He’s densely built and shouldn’t be immediately pushed to the slot because he is capable of holding his own fighting for real estate down the sideline. Myrick is a better athlete than his former teammate, Briean Boddy-Calhoun, currently a member of the Cleveland Browns.
Cam Sutton, Tennessee
Age: 22 (Born Feb. 27, 1995)
Height: 5-11
Weight: 188 lbs
40 Yard Dash: 4.52s
Broad Jump: 10′
Vertical: 34″
3-Cone: 6.81s
Shuttle: 4.15s (Pro Day)
Bench: 11 reps
Production: 19 solo tackles (3 percent), 1 interception (9 percent), 4 pass deflections (8.5 percent)
Notes: Sutton missed six games due to an ankle injury in the middle of the season before returning for the last month of the season and then participating in the Senior Bowl. Between his sophomore and junior seasons, Sutton returned 39 punts at an average of 16 yards and three touchdowns.
Brian Allen, Utah
Age: 23 (Born Oct. 21, 1993)
Height: 6-2.875
Weight: 215 lbs
40 Yard Dash: 4.48s
Broad Jump: 9’9″
Vertical: 34.5″
3-Cone: 6.64s
Shuttle: 4.34s
Bench: 15 reps
Production: 27 solo tackles (5 percent), 4 interceptions (22.2 percent), 6 pass deflections (11.3 percent)
Notes: Allen is a huge corner who may also get looks at free safety. Originally went to Utah with the plan of being a wide receiver before switching to corner. He missed the latter half of the 2014 with an undisclosed season-ending injury.
Jack Tocho, N.C. State
Age: Unavailable
Height: 6-0.25
Weight: 199 lbs
40 Yard Dash: 4.54s (4.51 at Pro Day)
Broad Jump: 10’4″
Vertical: 34.5″
3-Cone: 7.15s (Pro Day)
Shuttle: 4.18s (Pro Day)
Bench: 21 reps
Production: 33 solo tackles (6.4 percent), 2 interceptions (20 percent), 9 pass deflections (17.6 percent)
Notes: Tocho is the son of Kenyan immigrants and started the last seven games of his freshman year. In his first start, he intercepted two passes. Tocho graduated in three years with a degree in accounting.
Ahkello Witherspoon, Colorado
Age: Unavailable
Height: 6-2.75
Weight: 198 lbs
40 Yard Dash: 4.45s
Broad Jump: 10’7″
Vertical: 40.5″
3-Cone: 6.93s
Shuttle: 4.13s
Bench: 13 reps
Production: 19 solo tackles (3.2 percent), 1 interception (6.6 percent), 21 pass deflections (28.3 percent)
Notes: Witherspoon’s father, Lucky, was a running back at Nevada-Reno. Initially went to Sacramento City College before transferring to Colorado. Witherspoon has shown remarkable ability to get to and make plays on the ball but physicality and tackling are major question marks.
Brendan Langley, Lamar
Age: 22 (Born Oct. 16, 1994)
Height: 6-0.25
Weight: 201 lbs
40 Yard Dash: 4.43s
Broad Jump: 10’3″
Vertical: 35.5″
3-Cone: 7.06s
Shuttle: 4.21s
Bench: 22 reps
Production: 28 solo tackles (6.6 percent), 6 interception (50 percent), 7 pass deflections (23.3 percent)
Notes: After signing with Georgia as a corner, they asked him to move to receiver. Ultimately, he went back to corner but ultimately opted to transfer to Lamar to get more playing time. At Lamar, they also moved him to receiver before switching him back to corner where he thrived as a senior.
Ezra Robinson, Tennessee State
Age: 23 (Born Feb. 19, 1994)
Height: 5-11
Weight: 189 lbs
40 Yard Dash: 4.47s
Broad Jump: 10’10”
Vertical: 34″
3-Cone: 7.43s
Shuttle: 4.39s
Bench: 13 reps
Production: 31 solo tackles (7.3 percent), 5 interceptions (38.4 percent), 13 pass deflections (22.4 percent)
Notes: Originally went to Michigan State but after two seasons transferred to Tennessee State. Robinson is aggressive, attacks the football downhill. At his best when he’s able to play off and come forward as there are questions about his ability to flip his hips.
