The Dallas Cowboys were tops in the NFC entering the playoffs one season ago, so when does their 2017 training camp start as they look to improve?

Fans were quick to worry about the Dallas Cowboys one year ago. When Tony Romo joined Kellen Moore in the preseason on injured reserve, uncertainty lied ahead. Remembering the quarterback woes of 2015, they hoped fourth-round rookie Dak Prescott would do better. He most certainly did on his way to winning NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year.

The Cowboys led by Prescott and fellow rookie Ezekiel Elliott ran through the rest of the league in the regular season. They finished the campaign with a 13-3 record, the best ledger in the NFC. After the bye in the Wild Card Round of the postseason, though, they welcomed the Green Bay Packers to Dallas. Though they fought back from an early deficit, their lackluster defense was too much to overcome as they were eliminated.

More from Dallas Cowboys

Despite losses in the secondary in free agency, the Cowboys retooled their defense with youth. Rookies Taco Charlton, Chidobe Awuzie and Jourdan Lewis all figure to play a critical role on the defense. The Cowboys also hope that 2016 second-round pick Jaylon Smith can get on the field after missing all of last year recovering from a knee injury.

Meanwhile, the offense should be as good as ever. La’el Collins figures to replace Doug Free (retirement) at right tackle, while they have options to replace Ronald Leary at left guard. With Prescott and Elliott back, they should be ready to roll.

This all leads to high hopes that the Cowboys can not only compete in the NFC again, but can have a shot at a Super Bowl. As they look to start that journey, when then does Dallas Cowboys 2017 training camp begin?
