We take a look at the Los Angeles Chargers’ passing attack heading into this season and why some major outlets have them ranked so high.

Whether people want to admit it or not, the Los Angeles Chargers have one of the most scariest passing attacks in the NFL, especially heading into the 2017 season. Having a gun-slinger like Philip Rivers tossing the football to an litany of talented receivers and tight-ends should definitely have the AFC West on watch.

It’s been a mix of free-agent signings and great decisions in the draft room that has brought this talented group of players together. Now, it looks like this may finally be the year that everything clicks on offense for Los Angeles.

It’s not only myself that believes in this Chargers’ passing game, the folks over at Pro Football Focus are pretty darn high on them as well.

More from Los Angeles Chargers

Take a look at where Cam Mellor from Pro Football Focus ranked the Los Angeles Chargers’ passing attack 11th in the NFL heading into the 2017 season.

"The Chargers saw a duo of wide receivers finish with grades in the top 33 as Tyrell Williams ranked 31st and Dontrelle Inman 33rd. QB Philip Rivers threw the sixth most touchdowns on deep passes (10) as the Chargers were one of only two teams to have three or more wide receivers haul in deep-pass touchdowns (Williams [4], Travis Benjamin [3] and Inman [2]). Factor in a new formidable target in rookie WR Mike Williams with the return of Keenan Allen, and Rivers has to be a happy man entering his 14th season."

Yes, I can guarantee you that Rivers is thrilled to have this many talented receivers in his offense this season. Not to mention, Rivers also has two solid tight ends in Antonio Gates and Hunter Henry. This may be the most complete set of receivers/tight-ends in the NFL.

Chargers fans should be very excited that their team is getting some major respect from Pro Football Focus. Los Angeles’ passing attack was ranked above the New York Gants, New Orleans Saints and the Carolina Panthers. Those are some solid MVP quarterbacks that Rivers is projected above this season.
