Dallas Cowboys: Lucky Whitehead release makes sense
By Jimmy Long
After reports surfaced that Lucky Whitehead was arrested for petty larceny in June, the Dallas Cowboys released him — which makes complete sense.
Lucky Whitehead has been a controversial subject ever since he arrived at the Dallas Cowboys facility. After filling the role of now New York Giants returner Dwayne Harris, many fans fell in love with the high-spirited prankster. His on-field performance left others unimpressed.
Whitehead has taken his fair share of criticism for not focusing on football enough, not being responsible enough, and so on. This is largely due to his public Snapchat account, to which he posts regularly. Including sometimes when he would be better served not hitting “post”.
See, Whitehead took a liking to posting videos of himself parking in other player’s parking spaces, or stealing their cleats from their lockers. I, like many other fans, found these videos amusing. On the other hand, some fans would have preferred him to just focus on football.

And to be fair, those fans probably have a point. While there is definitely room for fun in professional football, Whitehead took it too far on occasion. Considering he never lived up to the hype when it counted on the field, the frustration was very understandable.
That’s why it came as no surprise when the Dallas Cowboys released the third-year wide receiver after learning that he was arrested in June. The Cowboys apparently didn’t want to wait for a final verdict in the case, as there is still some ambiguity as to whether Whitehead is actually guilty.
Being a bubble player to begin with, Whitehead faced an uphill climb to a spot on the 53. Not to mention, the Cowboys recently drafted Ryan Switzer, now a talented rookie waiting in the wings. He is more than capable of filling his role.

After being in the news for all the wrong reasons, the Cowboys clearly meant to set an example. Unfortunately for Whitehead, he was the straw that broke the camel’s back. And that cost him his career with the Dallas Cowboys.
