Ex Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive end Da’Quan Bowers was not a fan of how he was treated during his time with the team.

It appears to have been anything but a friendly goodbye. That is the consensus upon reading the tweets from former Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive end Da’Quan Bowers. Bowers is now in the CFL and has not seen any NFL action since 2015.

Per Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times, Bowers took to Twitter and voiced his displeasure with current Bucs general manager Jason Licht:

"“Jason Licht is a piece of (expletive),” Bowers wrote. “He don’t even respect the players on his roster now … ask them if he will even look them in the eyes.”"

Bowers take was in response to a tweet from Weslye Saunders, a former NFL tight end. Licht would not let the tight end try out for the Buccaneers. Saunders showed up at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers practice facility last month uninvited, prompting Licht to call him a “psycho” according to Saunders:

In five seasons with Tampa Bay, Bowers was productive totaling 46 tackles, seven sacks, two fumble recoveries and six pass defenses. Although not eye-popping numbers, he did manage to stay on a roster and contribute, something that is difficult to do

Licht declined to comment on the story, and it is unclear whether he will do so.

This is just interesting in the sense that it may create a domino effect. It may be nothing at all, a disgruntled former player venting his frustrations. It may lead to something, thus encouraging other former players to speak up as well.

One has to wonder if other current Buccaneer players feel the same way about Licht and just have not spoken publicly about it. Regardless, the likely case is that this is nothing for now — while also being something worth keeping an eye on moving forward.
