The Dallas Cowboys selected Noah Brown from Ohio State late in the 2017 NFL Draft, but can he do enough to make the final roster?

When the Dallas Cowboys selected wide receiver Noah Brown with a seventh-round pick in April’s 2017 NFL Draft, they gained a player who has the ability to make an NFL roster. Bbut he also has a long road ahead of him to earn one of the coveted spots on the 53-man roster.

Even with the backing of Ezekiel Elliott, and with the Cowboys having already cut one wide receiver this camp and being a draft selection by the Cowboys, Brown still has a battle ahead of him. On Sunday, he might have lost some of that battle as he and two others were tossed from camp by head coach Jason Garrett.

Todd Archer of ESPN.com wrote this of Brown being ejected via his Twitter account:

"Linebacker Kyle Wilber and wide receiver Noah Brown have been thrown out of practice after a fight in team drills."

Being ejected from a practice is the last thing a player on the roster bubble needs at this point of training camp. He’s losing reps and valuable practice time as he tries to impress his coaches over other receivers such as Andy Jones, Brian Brown, Lance Lenoir, Uzoma Nwachukwu and even Brice Butler, to a certain degree.

Brown does have talent as a wide receiver, and though he might not have put up huge numbers in a crowded Ohio State offense during his three-year stay with the Buckeyes, he still played well his final season. In his “sophomore” season (he didn’t play in 2015 due to injury), Brown played in 12 games for Ohio State, totaling 32 receptions for 402 yards and seven touchdowns.

Mark Dulgerian of NFL.com wrote this of Brown when he was drafted:

"Brown is a similar size/speed athlete as the Cowboys’ own Brice Butler (currently on a 1-year contract) was coming out of college. They’re hoping to get a similar payoff from the 7th-rounder."

With the Cowboys cutting Lucky Whitehead for varying issues last week, that did improve the chances and opportunity for Brown to earn a roster spot as a rookie for the Cowboys. The next two to three weeks will be very critical for Brown if he makes the roster of the Cowboys. He should get a big opportunity with the extra preseason game, the Hall of Fame Game looming near on Aug. 3. Being back in Ohio, the Hall of Fame Game will also give Brown a chance to play in the same state he played college football.

Next: Cowboys: How good is the quarterback depth?

It is uncertain how many wide receivers the Cowboys will decide to keep on their initial 53-man roster for 2017. What is certain is the back end of the wide receiver depth chart for the Cowboys is far from, well, certain. That opens the door for Brown to have a chance at making the final roster with a strong showing in camp.
