Denver Broncos outside linebacker Von Miller doesn’t want to just break the NFL sack record of 22.5 in a season, he wants to crush it by eyeing 30 in a year

After the idea of 30 sacks in a season was brought up by Oakland Raiders quarterback Derek Carr, others have started to consider it. The most notable to do so is Denver Broncos outside linebacker Von Miller, who called the idea of taking down the opposing quarterback 30 times “attainable.”

Here’s what he said about such a lofty goal, via Aric DiLalla of DenverBroncos.com:

"“First off, you’ve got to come out — let me think about it. You’ve got to get 10 in that first month. You’ve got to get 10 your first month, which is doable. You get two-and-a-half, you get two-and-a-half the next game, two-and-a-half the next game after that. You might miss one game, but then you get two-and-a-half [the next game]. So then you’ve got 10 in five games right there. If you get three, two, three [in a stretch], it’s definitely doable.”"

Of course, when Carr brought the issue up he was thinking of his own teammate in defensive end Khalil Mack, who won the 2016 NFL Defensive player of the Year Award. Mack also has 19 sacks over the past two seasons and Carr believes if teams were being called correctly for holding that number would go much higher — although he probably prefers the guys protecting him still get away with it.

Miller though is probably more likely to break the NFL single-season record. He’s also more likely to set some unreachable mark like 30 sacks.

The second overall pick in 2011 has 73.5 career sacks and had a personal best 18.5 back in 2012. He’s also shown he has the ability to catch fire at any second, like when he became un-blockable during their Super Bowl 50 win.

Next: One potential Hall of Fame candidate from each NFL team

Of course, 30 is a bit of a reach. However, if anyone would ever be able to reach it, Miller could be atop that list. He’s basically had his way with NFL offensive tackles since entering the league — something Mike Remmers can attest to from Super Bowl 50. It’d only be fair if he did it to some ridiculous tune like 30 sacks.
