The New York Jets face the Detroit Lions on Saturday, Aug.19 in the NFL Preseason. Here’s all the info you need to watch.
The New York Jets take their young team out to Michigan on Saturday night to visit the Detroit Lions. All eyes will once again be on Christian Hackenberg as he will again get the chance to see an abundance of reps. He will be looking to make his case to be the starting quarterback, though Josh McCown will see more reps that last week when he just played one drive. Bryce Petty seems to be at the back of the pack by a long distance.
Last week, Hackenberg was efficient but cautious. He went 18-25 for 127 yards, no touchdowns and no interceptions. Efficient, but also an average of 5.1 yards per pass. Against Detroit, John Morton is going to have to open up the offense for Hackenberg. If not, opponents will sit on the short routes when they play against New York and dare them to go over the top. McCown showed he can make a play deep, they need to let Hackenberg do the same.
The defense, frankly, needs to continue from where they were last week. They were able to get to the quarterback eight times, which we haven’t seen in ages in ANY game. The Titans put a measly three points. Yes, it was a preseason game, but these are still NFL players. Holding them to three points is more than solid. It shows a defense that has the potential to keep the Gang Green in every game this season.
