Houston Texans Preseason: 3 Takeaways vs Patriots
By Randy Gurzi
1. Tom Savage keeps impressing
For anyone who kept track of the Houston Texans over the past three seasons, it’s hard to trust quarterback Tom Savage. He was a fourth-round pick in 2014 after an odd collegiate career in which he went from Rutgers to Arizona to Pittsburgh. He’s managed to stay with one team in the NFL, but hasn’t been reliable.
Savage was called upon as a rookie and completed just 52.6 percent of his passes for 127 yards and a pick. The following preseason Savage found himself placed on the IR with a shoulder injury. Then in 2016 the team turned to him again and the injury bug once again hit. After an impressive game off the bench, Savage struggled in his next outing and went down with a concussion.

Once again the team is hoping he can start for them. So far, he hasn’t let them down. After a smooth looking Week 1, Savage was even better in Week 2. Savage was 8-of-9 for 98 yards and he threw the only touchdown pass of the game in which he hit receiver Jaelen Strong on a high pass in the back of the end zone.
Although Watson struggled in this game, Savage is winning the starting job all on his own.
