New York Giants star wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. took a low hit on Monday night against the Browns and left the game limping and in pain.

When it comes to the New York Giants offense, there’s almost no question that wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. is the heart of it. Yes, quarterback Eli Manning is the veteran under center. However, when their offense was hit-or-miss a season ago, it was Beckham that comprised much of the “hitting”.

This offseason, the Giants took measures to try and remedy that to a degree. Signing Brandon Marshall, in theory, should be a big help to the Big Blue offense. With that being said, it’d be foolish to say that Beckham isn’t still the heart of the offense. Whether they need a monster play or just a catch, he’ll be the go-to guy.

For Beckham to be that, however, he has to be healthy. And on Monday night in preseason action against the Cleveland Browns, that type of disaster seemed to strike. In the first half against the Browns, OBJ made a catch, but then took a low hit that caused him to buckle his leg in an awkward way as he went down:

After the hit, Beckham was in obvious pain. He limped to the sidelines under his own power. More concerning, though, he also walked back to the locker room after that, falling to the ground in pain before trainers got to him:

The Giants updated fans on his status, saying that it was an ankle sprain and was evaluated (and cleared) for a concussion, but nothing more:

If that’s all it is, the Giants and Beckham are both lucky. That hit looked nasty and his leg bent in a wildly unnatural way.

Regardless, we have to take the Giants at their word right out of the gate. Thus, it seems like they’ve dodged a bullet for now. But this is definitely something to keep an eye on moving forward.
