Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Gerald McCoy may need MRI for groin injury
Tampa Bay Buccaneers veteran defensive star Gerald McCoy’s injury, although not appearing serious, is still cause for concern.
Any time one of your players suffers an injury, it certainly is a reason to be alarmed. Such is the case for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and their star playmaker Gerald McCoy.
As noted by Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk, McCoy is being evaluated for a groin/pelvic injury. In a decision that was first reported by Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times, an MRI is a possibility. If there is any consolation to this report, it is not believed to be a serious injury.
If this injury is a serious one and depending on how long McCoy is out, this could be a major blow for the Buccaneers. McCoy has been perhaps the most durable player on their roster the past two seasons, only missing one contest in the past two campaigns. In those two years, he has recorded 16.5 sacks combined, establishing himself as one of the league’s most feared pass rushers.
He had another tremendous year in 2016, notching 7.5 sacks. You never want to see an injury happen. However, a consolation to this is that it is still preseason. If this injury is small, this will give McCoy time to heal and rest up. Normally, the third preseason game is when the starters see the most action. In McCoy’s case, the Bucs already know what he can do so there is not a pressing need to get him back out there as quickly as possible.

McCoy is an integral part of Tampa Bay’s defensive line. If there is one thing the team needs to do, it is to make sure he is ready to go come the opener against Miami. He is a big part of their push for the playoffs.
