The New York Giants and New York Jets played their annual preseason game against one another and there were three things that stood out for the G-Men

The starters played well enough to put the New York Giants in position to win against their MetLife roommates, the New York Jets. They were up by a score of 29-3 and then the backups came in and pretended the Jets were a good team.

Things got interesting and the Jets pulled within a point at 32-21. They went for the win with a two-point conversion, but that failed and the battle of the two New York teams that don’t reside in New York went to the Giants.

Here are three things we learned about the Giants in this game.

3. If this defense slacks, they will be a terrible team

They started out with a safety that gave them a two-point lead, and then safety Landon Collins picked off a pass in the first quarter as well that he took back for six. That ended up being nine points in the first quarter that came directly from the defense.

Then the backups came in and let Bryce Petty resemble a viable option at quarterback. The Giants saw a 29-3 lead evaporate and it was a painful reminder to us all that if their defense falters, this is not even an 8-8 club. Their offense just can’t get things done consistently enough and they rely so heavily on the defenders.

All the pressure for 2017 is on them.
