Jay Ajayi is the clear lead back for the Miami Dolphins, but it’s not as clear as to who is the best option to handcuff him with in fantasy football

If Miami Dolphins stud running back Jay Ajayi goes down, fantasy football owners must be prepared to choose between Damien Williams and Kenyan Drake as the replacement. Obviously, we would all hope that this never happens. But even still, this is a question you have to ask as a fantasy owner.

There has been plenty of debate in regards to who is the back to own should Ajayi be forced to miss any time this season due to injury, suspension or any other reason. Well I have the answer for you.

If you watch the Dolphins early in the season — and perhaps even through the season assuming Ajayi stays healthy — Williams will likely serve as the primary RB2 in Miami. If you are in a really deep league and need an emergency flex option and are looking at this duo, Williams is the guy to plug in. He’s a solid blocker, can catch passes and sees a lot of red zone work.

With that said, he seems like the obvious handcuff. But not so fast.

While Williams is the solid change-of-pace option, Drake is far more explosive and dynamic. He has the ability to break one at any given moment. Because of this, if Ajayi was to miss an extended period of time, Drake would be the man to step in as the better fantasy option. Not only would he see more work, but he would also have way more upside.

If you are sitting at the end of your draft looking to handcuff Ajayi, roll the dice on Drake. He has the ability to be a playmaker and even a fantasy stud if granted the opportunity. Again, hopefully we don’t ever arrive at this situation. Ajayi can be the feature back, Williams can play his defined role and Drake will occasional dazzle us with his burst and athleticism.
