McAfee Tosses It Long

The now-retired McAfee was quick to make note of Huber’s fluid movements on his fakeout, with the two tweeting with each other over the matter. McAfee has his own cache of fakes to look back on, with this recent one showing off his non-kicking talents just a bit.

What Makes It Great

  • He’s given a full ten yards of field to line up his throw by his blockers.
  • He connects on the pass in a tight window, placing the ball where only his receiver could grab it.
  • Indianapolis was down 14-0 at the time of this play; this 35-yard gain on fourth down was integral in Indianapolis’ eventual touchdown on the drive.

What Holds It Back

  • The play has just one guy on a route on the side of the field McAfee rolls to, and that guy is covered decently well considering this was a fake punt.
  • McAfee doesn’t put much on the ball, so while it gets to his spot, it ominously hangs in the air for what feels like forever before Erik Swoope is able to snag it and run down the field.

Final Verdict: 5/10

Pretty good showing, and important at the stage of the game where it occurred, but it didn’t end up leading to a victory and was precariously close to not even being a completion.
