The NFL upheld the suspension for Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott, but will his other litigation allow him to play in Week 1 vs the Giants?

The yearlong investigation and subsequent six-game suspension handed down by the NFL to Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott has been dominating headlines. What’s more, it’s also been on the tip of everyone’s tongues. On Tuesday night, though, at least some part of the ongoing debate was settled.

After hearing Elliott and his camp’s appeal, Harold Henderson finally ruled about whether or not to uphold the six-game suspension. As it turns out, the seemingly convincing evidence in favor of Elliott wasn’t enough for that. Instead, the six-game ruling was upheld, as reported by Chris Mortensen:

However, the appeals process is never the end of it. NFL fans will remember that Tom Brady lost his appeal and still played the next season in the wake of Deflategate. That was the result of supplementary litigation that allowed him to play while it was ongoing.

So that obviously begs the question of if the same will be true in the case of Ezekiel Elliott. Especially with a huge season-opener looming against the New York Giants, will the Cowboys running back be available to play in Week 1 on Sunday Night Football.

Yes, Elliott will be good to go as multiple reports have confirmed:

The note that USA Today’s Tom Pelissero made at the end about the restraining order is also important. If the judge rules in Elliott’s favor, then he will likely be able to play the whole season for Dallas — which would obviously be massive for the Cowboys.

Though the appeal has been ruled on, this process is far from over. We don’t know how this will end up, but the immediate future has Ezekiel Elliott playing Week 1 and could have him in all 16 games for the Super Bowl hopeful Cowboys.
