Green Bay Packers: Potential receiver contributors on practice squad
By Hunter Noll
The Green Bay Packers have Aaron Rodgers and great weapons, but the practice squad may hold more potential contributors for down the road.
Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers has a lot of weapons this season. Martellus Bennett leads the tight ends, but that’s just the tip of the iceberg. The wide receiver corps boasts Jordy Nelson and Davante Adams, as well as Randall Cobb. Jeff Janis and Trevor Davis have their strengths as well.
That’s not where the embarrassment of riches stops for the Packers, though. They currently have two young wide receivers on their practice squad in Michael Clark and DeAngelo Yancey. Both can potentially be contributors in the near future, and major contributors in the distant future.
Michael Clark is an undrafted free agent out of Marshall University. He’s got raw talent, and perfect size for a wide receiver. At 6-6, 217 pounds, Clark towers over most defenders. This gives him a major advantage. Clark caught four passes for 34 yards and a touchdown in the preseason.

He was incredibly intriguing heading into camp, and did enough to keep the Packers interested. If he can get some more experience (and sharpen some skills) on the practice squad, Clark could become a big-time weapon for Green Bay.
DeAngelo Yancey was drafted in the fifth round by the Packers this season. In the first week of the preseason, Yancey caught three passes for 67 yards (although he did have a fumble). Those ended up being his only stats of the preseason though.
At 6-1, 220 pounds, Yancey has decent size. He’s not monstrous like Clark, but he can definitely hold his own. He also brings plus potential in a large number of categories. Heading into the preseason, Yancey was probably more favored to make the 53-man roster instead of the practice squad. This works out better, though. On the practice squad, he can focus solely on progression.

The Packers have an abundance of toys for Aaron Rodgers to play with. It’s nice to know they have two more waiting on the practice squad should they need reinforcements.
