The Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Redskins face off in NFL Week 1 at FedEx Field. Here are all the highlights from the game.

For Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Redskins fans, the wait is finally over. Week 1 of the 2017 NFL season is here and kicks off with a great NFC East matchup to start the year. It may be a long season, but this is a big game for the Eagles and the Redskins. Winning a game is always good, but beating a team in the division is huge. Both of these teams have a chance to not only start the season 1-0 but start the year off 1-0 against NFC East opponents.

Things started out quickly for Eagles second-year quarterback Carson Wentz. On his first drive of the game, he was pressured, but somehow escaped numerous would-be sacks as he looked down the field for much-maligned wideout Nelson Agholor. Known for drops, the receiver held onto this one and then made a play to get into the end zone for the 58-yard score.

Then in the second quarter, the Eagles struck again. After a nice drive by Wentz and company, they were able to get down the field and a dump-off to LeGarrette Blount gave them a big 13-0 lead after a missed extra point. Despite seemingly having all of the momentum, though, they started to falter a bit.

It started with a bad throw by Wentz, which was ruled as a backwards pass and recovered by Washington. Washington then struck again when the Philly quarterback threw a questionable pass that was tipped and then intercepted as Ryan Kerrigan took it to the house. Things got worse as the offense seemed out-of-sync. When Washington got the rock back, they scored with the end of the half close to take a 14-13 lead.

Lucky for Philly, Wentz gathered himself and drove close enough to kick a field goal as time expired to take back the lead going into the half.

Whatever was wrong with the Eagles for that brief spell in the first half, though, they seemed to put it behind them. And though Wentz and the offense were fine, a large part of it was their ability on the defensive side of the ball. They completely left Kirk Cousins and company looking inept as they weren’t able to do anything with any kind of consistency.

Though the Philadelphia offense wasn’t spectacular, they moved the ball well enough and found the end zone once in the fourth quarter to seal a big victory to open the season, taking down a division rival.

It’s always great when two NFC East foes go toe-to-toe. This should be no different with the Eagles and Redskins duking it out to start the 2017 season.
