The Cincinnati Bengals struggled in Week 1, leading to a 20-0 shutout loss to the visiting Baltimore Ravens. Here are three takeaways from the season-opening loss.

One phrase that rang true after the 20-0 loss for the Cincinnati Bengals against the Baltimore Ravens at Paul Brown Stadium was turnovers lead to losses. The offense of the Bengals never clicked, and the Ravens were able to take advantage of those miscues — forcing four interceptions and one fumble — en route to their 20-point victory.

Cincinnati totaled 221 yards of offense with a net total of just 77 net rushing yards, though Giovani Bernard led the team with 40 yards rushing on seven rushes, while A.J. Green had five receptions for 74 yards.

Those were the positives on the offensive side of the ball for the Bengals, but the negatives heavily outweighed anything that went well for Cincinnati. Quarterback Andy Dalton was responsible for five turnovers, four interceptions and one fumble.

This showing was far from what the Bengals can be this season, but this loss goes to show just how much turnovers can affect a team’s pace of play on both sides of the ball.

Here are three takeaways from the Bengals’ loss to the Ravens from Sunday.
