Fantasy Football 2017: 5 Biggest Takeaways from Week 1
By Dan Thomas
4. Get Ready to Bench Your Colts
Me: “The New York Jets have the worse offense to ever grace a NFL field.”
Scott Tolzien: “Hold my beer.”
In case you didn’t see the game, it was that bad. Colts backup quarterback Scott Tolzien went 9-of-18, 128 yards 0 touchdowns and two interceptions which went the other way for touchdowns. The offense couldn’t get a single thing going until they scored a garbage time touchdown in the fourth quarter.
The Colts backup quarterback situation is atrocious and their offensive line is below-average. So why exactly should fantasy football owners trot out players Frank Gore, Jack Doyle and Donte Moncrief? Well in my opinion, they shouldn’t. Even T.Y. Hilton with his blazing speed isn’t a great option.
Late in the game the Colts did put in newly acquired quarterback Jacoby Brissett so maybe the offense has a chance to do something with him under center. Yet, until Andrew Luck returns I’m not feeling good about any of the Colts players.

3. Injury Bug Continues to Wreak Havoc
Injuries, injuries, injuries. It happens every season and sometimes we have an idea who the players will be but there are still some players we don’t see coming. Unfortunately, Week 1 was no different.
Jaguars wide receiver Allen Robinson was already having a tough time because his quarterback isn’t any good at his job. Now he’s having a really tough time because he’ll miss the remainder of the 2017 season with a torn ACL.
The first overall pick in many fantasy football drafts, David Johnson, left his game with a wrist injury. Reports are stating it’s only a sprain and he might not even miss Week 2. However, this will be a situation to monitor because if this injury lingers, it could really effect his play.
Danny Woodhead is a PPR machine when he’s healthy on the field but it looks like he’s going to miss time with a hamstring injury. How much time exactly? Stay tuned.
Bears wide receiver Kevin White was going to see a major uptick in targets with Cameron Meredith out for the season. Instead, it looks like White will be hanging out with Meredith on the sidelines as reports indicate he’ll miss the season with a broken collarbone.
If you’re a fantasy football owner who owned any of these players plus either Andrew Luck or Odell Beckham Jr., you must be thrilled.
