Fantasy Football 2017: 5 Biggest Takeaways from Week 1
By Dan Thomas
2. Rookies Impress
Maybe Chiefs Kareem Hunt‘s 246 yards and three touchdowns on Thursday Night Football was a prelude for what this season was going to be like. That’s because rookies really excelled around the NFL on Sunday.
- Bears running back Tarik Cohen finished with 113 total yards, 8 receptions and 1 touchdown.
- Lions wide receiver Kenny Golladay had 4 receptions, 69 yards and 2 touchdowns.
- Rams wide receiver Cooper Kupp had 4 receptions, 76 yards and 1 touchdown.
- As expected, Leonard Fournette operated as a workhorse as he finished with 29 touches, 124 yards and 1 touchdown.
- Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey didn’t pad the stat sheet (yet) but he did manage 85 yards from scrimmage and 5 receptions.
- Even Browns rookie DeShone Kizer had a respectable day with 222 passing yards, 1 touchdown, 1 interception and 1 rushing touchdown.
1. Don’t Panic!
Every season there are owners who lose Week 1 either because they faced a superior opponent or because their team just crapped the bed. Either way, don’t do anything stupid!
Don’t try to trade away your best players for guys who blew up in Week 1. Don’t drop your entire bench and try to pick up a handful of new players on the waiver-wire.

In my, “Sorry, but you drafted wrong” article I mentioned how players like Julius Thomas, Dwayne Allen, Alex Smith and Willie Snead were top 3-5 players at their position after Week 1 in 2016. How’d they fair the rest of the season? Not great.
Take Week 1 for exactly what it is: one week!
