Los Angeles Chargers: 3 Takeaways vs Broncos in Week 1
By Derek Snyder
1. This is a resilient team
If you’re a die-hard Chargers fan, then I know you must be pretty salty after the Chargers came close to beating the Broncos on Monday night. They didn’t play very well early, which was ultimately one of the biggest factors, as they ran out of time at the end of the game. Losing is never fun, but Los Angeles showed exactly why they can compete for the AFC West title in 2017.
Philip Rivers and Melvin Gordon both played huge parts in the Chargers’ first touchdown drive of the season. It was an important drive because Denver had just score the drive before and the crowd was already making it hard on communication across the board. Needless to say, Los Angeles handled the pressure fine and got the game-tying score.
That being said, the Broncos’ defense took it to another level after that drive, as they held Los Angeles without points until mid way through the fourth quarter; not to mention, that was exactly when the Chargers started to get rolling.
It truly did seem as though the same was in hand after the Chargers had another drive stall out, but an interception and fumble recovery from the Los Angeles defense catapulted the Bolts towards a comeback, which none of us saw coming.

For a team that struggled to finish football games in 2016, they sure would great in the fourth quarter against Denver. Yes, Younghoe Koo’s kick was blocked in the closing seconds, but don’t be surprised when the Chargers carry this moment forward, knowing that they can compete regardless of the score.
