The Washington Redskins faced the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday, Sept. 17 in NFL Week 2, and highlights from the game are below.

The Washington Redskins last traveled to Los Angeles to face the Rams on Christmas Eve in 1994. The Redskins won that game to cap off a miserable 3-13 campaign. That was the Rams last game in L.A. until they returned in 2016. The Redskins, of course, have played the Rams in the 23 years since, but that was the St. Louis version of the franchise.

Los Angeles coached by Sean McVay, who was the offensive coordinator in Washington for the previous three seasons. McVay was essential in the development of Redskins’ quarterback Kirk Cousins. Now, McVay is trying to work his magic on second-year passer Jared Goff. The early returns are good as Goff had his best game as a pro in last week’s season-opening win over the Indianapolis Colts.

The Redskins jumped out to a big lead over the Rams in the first half. With running back Chris Thompson really giving the offense life, he found the end zone twice. Meanwhile, the Redskins defense was able to step up and really make plays consistently against the Rams. They allowed a field goal and a Todd Gurley touchdown. However, that was good enough to give Washington a 20-10 lead at the half.

However, things got a bit trickier coming out of halftime. The Redskins defense, largely, remained solid. They allowed Gurley to break loose for a long touchdown in the third quarter. Instead, the problem became the offense. Kirk Cousins and company simply looked inept for the most part and couldn’t move the ball. LA then kicked a field goal in the fourth quarter to tie the game up late.

With that said, Cousins deserves his due for how he stepped up late. When his team needed a big drive, he put it together. After orchestrating a nice drive, Cousins then found Ryan Grant for a red zone touchdown to put Washington ahead. When the defense then earned their first interception on Goff on the ensuing drive, that was all she wrote for this game.
