The Washington Redskins picked up their first victory of the season with a 27-20 win over the Los Angeles Rams, and here are three takeaways for the Skins.

The Washington Redskins picked up their first win of the 2017 season on Sunday, defeating the Los Angeles Rams 27-20 in a game that could have been much worse in favor of Washington.

The Redskins dominated the first half, with Rob Kelley accounting for 78 yards on 12 carries. Chris Thompson, who had a spectacular day, scored two of Washington’s touchdowns including a 61-yard run in the second quarter. Unfortunately for the Redskins, Kelley went down with a rib injury and the running game sputtered, allowing the Rams to get back in the game.

Washington started off slowly in the second half with quarterback Kirk Cousins fumbling a snap, followed by Thompson dropping an easy pass over the middle that likely would’ve gone for another score. The Redskins were forced to punt and Todd Gurley got going. The Rams eventually tied the game midway through the fourth quarter, giving Washington’s offense a chance to march down the field and win the game.

On the Redskins’ go-ahead drive late in the fourth quarter, Cousins passed the ball just three times, however, he was perfect in all three attempts including a beautiful game-winner to Ryan Grant in the front corner of the end zone. Cousins, moving to his left, lobbed his best pass of the day into the waiting hands of Grant who did a good job of keeping his feet down.

For Washington, this was a must-win game. Yes, it’s just Week 2, but with Oakland and Kansas City in the following weeks, the Redskins needed a win and they got it.

Here are three takeaways from Washington’s win over Los Angeles.
