The Atlanta Falcons did something that they haven’t done in nearly 43 years on Sunday Night Football against the Green Bay Packers.

What a historical night it was for Arthur Blank and the Atlanta Falcons franchise on Sunday Night Football. Not only was it the team’s home-opener of the 2017 regular season, but it was the first-ever Falcons’ regular season game in their new digs — Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

Yes, it was very important to every Falcons fan that the team won the first game played in their new stadium. However, it was even more important that Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers would leave town with their first loss of the season.

The Falcons were able to accomplish just that on Sunday, beating the Packers, 34-23.

More from Atlanta Falcons

That being said, did you know that by beating Green Bay in Week 2, the Dirty Birds accomplished something they haven’t done in nearly 43 years: beat the Packers three-straight times. As completely crazy as it sounds, Atlanta’s victory on Sunday night gave them their first three-game winning streak over the Pack since the early 1970s.

The last time Atlanta won three-straight against Green Bay was in 1971, 1972 and 1974. Not to mention, this winning streak is coming on the heels of the team losing four-straight to the Packers in 2011 (twice), 2013 and 2014.

Yes, this is something awesome to talk about at the office, but what’s eve more exciting is that the Falcons are finally overtaking Green Bay in the NFC. While many Packers fans will argue that these three games have been on the road, Atlanta has completely dismantled them over the last two. I would have a hard time seeing this Green Bay defense playing any better at home.

That said, kudos to Dan Quinn and his staff, as they have done a phenomenal job of getting their guys ready to face one of the best quarterbacks we may ever see play.
